Ozan Kabak has revealed he is keen on a move to the Premier League this summer amid links to Newcastle United.

The Turkish international is set to leave Schalke following their relegation from the Bundesliga, which was confirmed whilst Kabak was on loan at Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s side swooped in at the last minute to beat the Magpies to the young defender’s signature in January with an £18million option to keep him permanently.

However, the Reds opted against activating his purchase clause and now reports in Germany claim Schalke want around £21m.

Steve Bruce is on the hunt for a centre-back this summer with Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer another strongly linked with a switch to St James’s Park.

On his future, 21-year-old Kabak told Turkish outlet Sozcu: “This is actually a matter of destiny.

“I played with Galatasaray at the age of 18 in the Champions League.

"After that, I played at Stuttgart, Schalke in Germany. I played in the Champions League again and again.

“Actually, considering my age, I have played in three leagues.

“I played close to ten Champions League matches. Now there is the European Championship.

“These are important experiences at a young age. I am happy, proud.

“After that, my career planning will continue.”

England’s top-flight or a move to the Bundesliga are Kabak’s preferred options.

He continued: “We will sit and try (to find) the best way to continue my career in the best league and the best team.

Premier League and Bundesliga added a lot to me.

“I can’t say for sure right now, but I would like to continue my career in the Premier League or the Bundesliga.”

Meanwhile, former Hull City striker Dean Windass would be shocked if Andros Townsend returned to Tyneside this summer.

The 29-year-old has been quietly linked with a return to Newcastle – but Windass doesn’t believe Bruce is genuinely interested.

He told Football FanCast: “No, I can’t see that happening and I can’t see Steve taking a chance on him because I think he’s really struggled at Crystal Palace in the last couple of seasons.

“He hasn’t moved on in terms of developing and he hasn’t managed to add goals to his game so I can’t see Steve taking a chance on him.”
