Newcastle United are planning a training camp in Portugal this summer.

The Premier League club will take on Peterborough United during their stay in the country, according to the Peterborough Telegraph. Peterborough won promotion to the Championship this season.

Speaking earlier this month, United head coach Steve Bruce said: “We’ve had small conversations about pre-season. Pre-season’s in place, hopefully we’ll announce a few dates for that one. What we’re doing here, there and everywhere.”

Portugal is on the Government’s green list of countries, which means travellers do not need to self-isolate on their return home. Newcastle last visited the country in 2018, when Rafa Benitez was manager. The club played friendlies against Porto and Sporting Braga.

The club have already announced first-team pre-season friendlies against York City and Harrogate Town on July 18. The squad will be split for the two games. The club’s Under-23s will take on Gateshead at the International Stadium on July 31.
