Newcastle United are unlikely to rekindle their reported interest in AS Roma’s Pau Lopez.

According to Calciomercato, the Magpies were in the hunt for the Spain international keeper in the summer, following the news that Martin Dubravka would miss much of the start of the Premier League season.

But no move materialised as Steve Bruce and the Magpies’ hierarchy placed their faith in No.2 Karl Darlow and recently signed back-up goalie Mark Gillespie.

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United were also credited with an interest in the 25-year-old, who has reportedly been told he can leave the Stadio Olimpico.

Lopez has made 32 appearances last season following a £21million move from La Liga outfit Real Betis, but now faces a battle for the No.1 jersey in Rome.

The report claims the Magpies are now happy with their goalkeeper stock after the impressive start to the season made by former No.1 Darlow.
