Former Premier League owner predicts Steve Bruce to leave Newcastle United next season

A large section of supporters have voiced their displeasure at the job the 60-year-old has carried out this campaign, with the Magpies locked in a Premier League relegation battle.

This has led to strong calls for Mike Ashley to sack the 60-year-old, however, the Sports Direct tycoon refused to answer, instead publicly backing Bruce.

Since coming out in support of Bruce, less than 12 hours after the 3-0 defeat at Brighton, United’s form has improved – picking up four points from a possible six with a draw against Tottenham Hotspur and a 2-1 win at Burnley.

The upturn in Newcastle’s fortunes has Jordan confident that Bruce will guide his side to top-flight safety, though doubts whether he’ll see the start of the 2021-22 season.

He told talkSPORT: “I don’t think they’ll go down. I never thought they’d go down. I thought Fulham had run their course. I said that a couple of weeks ago and it’s proven to be so.

"You can never write anything off in the league but I don’t think Steve Bruce will be there next year. I think they will stay in the division and if he’s got anything about him, he’ll want to go.

“And having done a job, whatever your view is of that – among a lot of fissiparous Newcastle United fans it’s not a particularly complimentary one.

"As long as they’ve got Ashley in control, nothing will change at Newcastle United Football Club until Mike Ashley sells."

Meanwhile, Jordan has his say on the 1892 Pledge, a scheme launched by the Newcastle United Supporters’ Trust to raise enough funds to purchase a stake in the club – when Ashley sells.

He said: “You’re going to have no influence because 1% gets you no influence whatsoever.

"They can be heard at AGMs – yes that’s fine but do you think that is going to make a difference to Mike Ashley?

"You think he hasn’t heard it already? You think there’s something he hasn’t heard already about what they think of him.

"He will sell that football club when somebody is able to buy it from him. "
